Jan Term 2017: 11 Jan 2017

Good morning!

We finally made it to the Dominican Republic! After waking up super early Wednesday morning, having a four hour layover in New York City, we finally arrived in Santo Domingo, DR, around 5pm. Yes, we had a longgggg adventurous day.

Our first night here was an opportunity to finalize our teaching plans and to explore this island culture. We met a Deaf barber, went to an amazing restaurant, and visited a pastry shop. It was nice interacting with a Deaf person from this country because it showed me Dominican Republic sign language (LESDOM) is very similar to American Sign Language (ASL). I tried a native dish for dinner (mofongo) and it was nothing but wonderful!

The pastry store on the corner smells good and looks amazing. I am definitely getting a few pastries before I head home.

I’m really excited to be in Dominican Republic! Can’t wait to start teaching on Friday.
